Acts 5:12-42
There is a very short time and space between the report of Acts 2:47 that the early church was “praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people” and the report of Acts 4:2 that the nation’s leaders were “greatly disturbed because the apostles were teaching the people, proclaiming in Jesus the resurrection of the dead” . It was not long before the peace and goodwill of the first weeks had given way to significant opposition. The work of God was too great to not draw the ire of his greatest opponent, and Satan soon launched a counter offensive with a series of assaults on the young and powerful Spirit-filled church. Having failed to intimidate them from without he sought to weaken them from within – by way of one of the most notorious couples in all of scripture. This morning we’ll dig into the significance and seriousness of their actions and what it says to each of us, here and now, in Acts 3:32-4:16, in a message entitled, “A Deadly Case of Double Hypocrisy”.
